Night markets offer the best shopping options in Chiang Mai. The variety and diversity of goods are excellent, and these markets are spread all over the city.
If you're in town on a weekend, you'll have even more choices, with entire evenings dedicated to browsing, shopping, snacking, and soaking in the lively atmosphere.
In addition to the usual tourist souvenirs, Chiang Mai's markets present a more interesting shopping experience. Stalls sell locally made handicrafts, one-of-a-kind clothing items, and northern delicacies that are rare to find elsewhere. The Sunday Walking Street is a highlight, though it can get crowded during the high season.

1. Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

Good for: Shoppers
The epicenter of shopping in Chiang Mai, the Night Bazaar runs every evening from 5 pm and spans a whole neighborhood. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly where the market starts and ends, as the stalls and shops vary. However, you can start your journey at the intersection of Chang Khlan Road and Loi Khro Road. From here, the bazaar stretches for about two blocks in every direction.
Expect to find an extensive selection of items—soccer shirts, carved elephants, artwork, handicrafts, sunglasses, shoes, luggage, furniture, and homeware. After a shopping spree, unwind at one of the many nearby restaurants.
Location: Intersection of Chang Khlan Road and Loi Khro Road, Chang Moi, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand
Open: Daily from 5 pm to midnight

2. Tha Pae Sunday Walking Street

Good for: Shoppers
Chiang Mai's most famous market takes place only once a week. If you're in town for the weekend, make sure to head here on a Sunday evening. This 1-km-long stretch is located in the heart of the city's main tourist area and runs from Tha Pae Gate toward Ratchadamnoen Road.
The road is closed to traffic from 4 pm, transforming it into a walking street. The market offers a huge variety of handicrafts, souvenirs, and accessories. Besides shopping, the area is alive with food vendors, and roadside massage areas, perfect for a quick foot rub.
Location: Rachadamnoen Rd, Si Phum, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand
Open: Sundays from 4 pm to 10:30 pm

3. Wua Lai Walking Street

Good for: Shoppers
Dear Lykkers, saturday's Wua Lai Walking Street is a favorite for many visitors, as it offers an excellent range of locally-made products and more space to explore compared to the Sunday market at Tha Pae Gate. Named after Wua Lai Road, it’s located just south of the old city walls, linking to Thipanet Road. Vendors begin setting up in the late afternoon, and the market winds down around 10:30 pm.
Location: Wua Lai Rd, Phra Sing, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand
Open: Saturday from 4 pm to 10:30 pm

4. Warorot Market (Kad Luang)

Good for: Shoppers
Warorot Market (Kad Luang) is one of the top food markets in Chiang Mai. It offers an impressive selection of fresh produce, along with ready-to-eat snacks and meals. The second and third floors are dedicated to clothing and accessories—though the quality may not always be high, the prices are low.
When it comes to food, don’t miss the northern-style delicacies such as sai oua, nam prik ong/nam prik noom (red and green chili dip). Warorot Market is located at the end of Chang Moi Road, near the river.
