Extend Tire Life

· Auto Team
Motorcycle tires are essential to braking, cornering, acceleration, and stability.
Although normal use will eventually require replacement, proper care can help minimize unnecessary wear and preserve consistent performance.
Check Tire Pressure
Correct tire pressure supports predictable handling and helps the tread wear as intended. Underinflation and overinflation can both affect road contact, ride quality, and tire wear.
Check the pressure when the tires are cold with a reliable gauge. Use the pressure specified in the motorcycle owner's manual or vehicle information label rather than the maximum pressure marked on the tire sidewall.
Make pressure checks part of a regular maintenance routine, especially before longer rides or when carrying additional weight.
Check Wheel Alignment
Proper alignment helps the motorcycle track correctly and reduces the risk of irregular tire wear. Misalignment can also affect handling and stability.
Watch for signs such as the motorcycle pulling to one side, handlebars sitting off-center while traveling straight, unusual vibration, or uneven tread wear.
Have alignment inspected according to the motorcycle's service requirements and whenever changes in handling or tire wear suggest that attention is needed.
Store the Motorcycle Properly
Tires can deteriorate during storage, particularly when exposed to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture for extended periods.
Whenever possible, keep the motorcycle in a cool, dry, shaded location. If outdoor storage is unavoidable, a suitable cover can reduce exposure to the elements.
Extended parking can also contribute to flat spotting. Suitable stands can help reduce prolonged pressure on one section of the tire.
Before riding after a long storage period, check the pressure and inspect the tread and sidewalls for cracks, cuts, deformation, or other visible damage.
Ride Smoothly
Riding technique has a direct effect on tire wear. Hard braking, abrupt acceleration, and aggressive cornering generate additional heat and friction, increasing the workload on the tires.
Progressive throttle application, controlled braking, and smoother cornering can reduce unnecessary stress. Anticipating traffic and road conditions also allows speed and direction to be adjusted gradually.
Clean and Inspect the Tires
Cleaning the tires is also an opportunity to check their condition. Remove dirt and road debris with water and, when necessary, a mild tire-compatible cleaning product and soft brush or sponge.
Avoid harsh solvents and abrasive materials that could affect the rubber. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and allow the tires to dry.
Inspect the tread and sidewalls for cracks, cuts, embedded objects, unusual wear patterns, or other visible changes. Regular inspections make it easier to identify problems before they affect a ride.
Make Tire Care a Routine
Longer tire life starts with consistent care rather than complicated maintenance. Checking pressure, monitoring alignment, storing the motorcycle correctly, using smooth riding inputs, and inspecting the tires regularly can help reduce avoidable wear.
These habits are not a substitute for replacing tires when they reach the end of their serviceable condition. Instead, they help maintain intended performance and make it easier to recognize when professional inspection or replacement is needed.
